HISTORY OF THE CLUB
The Club was founded in 1936 and was known as Kirkcaldy and District Philatelic Society, it held its first meetings in the Rio Alto Tearooms on the High Street in Kirkcaldy.

It has always been a club attended by a small but keen number of members. In 1954 it was decided to move to new, larger and more private premises in the YWCA Esplanade Kirkcaldy, where we stayed quite happily until 1997 when due to the onset of higher Hall Rentals, Noisy Neighbours and poor lighting we had to regretfully look for other premises, this decision was taken after a few meetings, it was a wrench after being at the YWCA for 43 years. We found premises run by Fife Council at St Clair Street where we settled in nicely, it has facilities for the disabled, a very important matter indeed, as the majority of our members are nearing the senior citizen age group. We decided to change the name to be a bit more modern to KIRKCALDY STAMP and POSTCARD CLUB.
Sadly, the Council went back on their word and changed our rent very quickly after getting us into the premises, we could not really afford the rise, we thought we could survive though, but they started altering the times that we agreed with them. So regretably we had no option than to move, we managed to find a nice place in one of the older streets in the town belonging to the oldest Church in Kirkcaldy. The Downie Lounge, Kirk Wynd, Kirkcaldy. We enjoyed our stay there for one year, the lighting and space was not really adequate but at least it gave us time to look for a more suitable home.To date we have just finished our first year in the Fife Volunteer Bureau, 10 St Brycedale Avenue, Kirkcaldy, (opposite The Adam Smith Theatre) where Parking is available at the rear of the building. At the Annual General Meeting in April 2000, everyone agreed the move was really great. At the AGM in 2002 it was decided that due to a continued drop in attendance at meetings, that we move our meetings to the afternoon for a trial period from 2pm till 4pm as of 25th September 2002.

Mr Ian Cripps joined the club in 1936 and was a founder member for 67 years but sadly I have to report that Ian died in 2003 he was a very keen and enthusiastic member whom everyone lent on for advice, he will be sorely missed not only by this club but many other groups that he was member of. Our sincere thoughts go out to his family.
The club is now into 2006 and the meetings are continuing in the afternoons as the membership has not gone down dramatically it was felt better to remain as we are. The council has forced clubs to take out liability insurance, us being a small club like many others in our position are feeling the pinch due to this decision, what the future holds for us is hard to imagine but....... Season 2007 is about to begin, what the future holds for our club is anyone's guess!

We would like thank The Fife Post for hosting our web page.
